The Earth, believed to be formed over 4 billion years ago has been home to many species including us Human Beings. However, not all of us respect the fact that it has been the “only” place which we could call home, there are scores of us who go on polluting the beautiful blue planet just by simply being irresponsible or careless. We forget sometimes that we are not the only species that live on this planet and endanger other living forms as well. Now people usually can’t stand to see their home in a mess and clean up, it is however unfortunate that we do not consider the same when it comes to keeping the planet clean. After all it is the home protecting our homes and has been for billions of years now.
Pollution in today’s world comes from not one but various sources. The automobiles we drive release so much of carbon dioxide that it leads to putting a hole in the ozone layer of the planet, which is like our shield from keeping it from falling apart. Now trees are a good source of curbing this situation as they take in the carbon dioxide and release oxygen from it, but even this defense against pollution is thwarted badly as hundreds of trees are cut everyday worldwide for their wood. Even the seas aren’t safe from man as we keep dumping in all sorts of chemical waste and oils into it. This is endangering the lives of the marine species that take shelter under water and also polluting the water which we drink daily. Factories also contribute to this epidemic by releasing all sorts of gases and smoke from their machineries. All this in turn lead to the increasing heat levels and are melting the glaciers in the arctic regions, a siuaton which scientists have labeled as “Global Warming”.
Now many of us when we read such things, nothing is ever new to us and we aren’t the least bit astonished or surprised to know such facts, as we already know of all these causes and effects. Still we go on doing the same mistakes over and over again without any remorse as we as a race have either become too lazy or too stupid to realize our own ways of destruction. It is however never too late to start cleaning up the mess we made. There are tons of things we can do to save our dying Planet. For instance, instead of always using cars, we could take public transport or ride a bicycle for that matter. That way we’d be not polluting the air anymore but also doing ourselves a favor by getting that extra exercise and the next time you are on a beach or ocean, do not throw all your garbage in it as if it were a dumping ground instead go dump your garbage in an actual garbage dispenser. We could also consider recycling and reusing garbage instead of burning it in flames or dropping it in the ocean. Also, our factories can act more responsibly and take measures to control the pollution they create and think of the planet instead of profits for once.
Even at home, we could do our part by consuming as less energy as possible. For instance, we could turn off all the lights which we do not need and turn off all our electronic gadgets when not in use instead of keeping them in standby (standby home appliances contribute to around 7% of the world’s energy consumption). Planting trees in our gardens would also help control pollution levels to some extent. There are many things that we can do to save our planet and as a matter of fact it is our responsibility to do so as we are the one’s responsible for polluting our beautiful planet in the first place.
We need to respect the only planet which our ancestors, for ages have preserved for us to live in peacefully and take care of it more and pass on to our children, who deserve to live the same life that we live today on the Earth.
Breathe free.

As the moment of decision draws closer and closer, there seems to be high tension regarding the outcome of the Pakistan General Elections. Never in history has such high intensity unfolded for a Country’s Election. Now as the people of Pakistan await the results of it’s polls, which were held today i.e. 18th Feb 2008, so does the entire world with it.
So many controversial events have took place in the past 4 months that probably have never in the history of the Country’s legislature have occurred before in the past. At first if it was the President Pervez Musharraf calling out an emergency and the Country’s losing all it’s stability till more recently when the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Ms. Benazir Bhutto was killed in a terror attack. Even more recently a suicide attack took place on a contesting party’s campaign. All these incidents have lead to a poor turnout at the polls as people feared more militant attacks. However, The voting process ended orderly and peacefully in most parts as were the words of Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Dilshad. It has been said by the officials that the complete results would be out in two days. All the major parties of the country are participating in the elections, which includes Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Awami National Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Muslim League-N, besides a large number of other independent candidates.
It is very close to call out the votes in anyone’s favor right now. Musharraf, meanwhile, promised to work with the new government regardless of who won the vote, after a year of turmoil that has seen an explosion in Taliban militancy and growing public disaffection with Pakistan’s support of the US-led war on terror.

“I will say from my side, whichever political party will win, whoever will become prime minister and chief ministers, congratulation to them on my behalf. And I will give them full cooperation as president whatever is my role,’’ the president told state television.

The Television, or as some may call it “The Tube” (or the “Idiot Box” for that matter) has been THE source for entertainment in the lives of millions and billions of people in their daily lives. Now some may just call it a useless piece of technology that wastes your time while others consider it to be a boon in their life. Whatever perception you may have, it is hard to ignore that TV has in fact influenced our life in a big way.
Dating back to the origins of this technological marvel, one would have never imagined in his/her wildest dreams that the Television can be used in so many informative ways such as live broadcasting to interactive programming. The TV was introduced to the world in between the period dating from the 1930s all the way to the 1990s.Thus the TV has become a familiar face with all of the World by now.
It’s viewers are largely vary from all sorts of people from housewives to children, from entrepreneurs to the everyday man. While some may like to watch all their favorite soaps or dramas some prefer to stick to news channels to know what’s happening in the world around them. Children, particularly tune in to catch their favorite cartoon characters on screen while more serious entrepreneurs watch business channels to keep a track of their stocks.
Now, coming to the negative side of things, the TV sometimes tends to be a distracting factor for a few, especially housewives who enjoy their daily soaps. They’re glued to the Tube all day long with absolutely no regard to the real world. Also, it is also very probable that the children gain access to adult content on channels as more and more new genres crop up on television. However, to curb this phenomenon, TVs nowadays come with preloaded Child Locks that allow the parents to set a code lock on all the channels that the children are not supposed to watch. Funny thing is, that children today are so technologically advanced from the very moment that they are born that these so called “locks” mean nothing to them and is absolutely “Child’s Play” for them to unlock it.
Putting these trivial matters aside, on can safely say that the Television has more pros to it than the cons when considering the immense possibilities one can not even start to imagine.

Take a poll if you want, you will find that the majority will vote in favor of the Television rather than against it!
